How apropos that I should be telling you this on Friday the 13th. Let's get right to it. As you may know, Cool Site of the Day has been down for the whole week. As the following memo explains, our hosting company, Datapeer, has filed for bankruptcy leaving us (and hundreds if not thousands of other web sites) in the dark. Shouldn't be a problem, right? You simply move your site to another server at another hosting company. Well, our new hosting company got hit by a tornado in the middle of the week! Fortunately their servers are in Texas, however, all their support staff is based in tornado land (somewhere in Illinois) so for the past few days we've been trying to move Cool Site of the Day to a company whose support staff has had to rely on cell phones to communicate with their clients. What a joy.
In case you're interested, here's the 'Dear John' letter that Datapeer sent out just after cutting everyone off.
During this time we've also been unable to receive e-mail. The good news is that our site submission form is now working so if you decide to submit your site for the Cool Site of the Day award over the next couple of days I can assure you it will get our full attention ;).
Overall, it's been quite a drag but a learning experience and we expect to be fully back at your service by next week.
