Is it possible to start from scratch and obtain a top 10 ranking in Yahoo, Google, & MSN in under a month?

kingryanarthur asked:

I want to know if it’s possible to purchase a domain name, put up a website and get ranked for a set of keywords in under a month. People talk of the Google Sandbox and I understand that it’s in a search engine’s best interest to make sure that a website will “stand the test of time” before ranking them well in their rankings, but what of sites that are brand new, but have valuable information on them?
I know you can buy your way into directories and to the top of search engines with PPC marketing. However, this question is about organic or natural search engine rankings. What legitimate principles must one adhere to in order to rank quickly. Also, are there any new techniques that could help out? I’ve heard about using blogs, rss feeds and press releases as ways to quickly promote your site. Any more help?
True, ranking may depend upon many variables, including the competition for your keyword phrase. So…let’s take away the time frame and just list the things necessary to get INDEXED quickly rather than ranked well. Some say that Google won’t even show signs of fully indexing a site until several months down the road.

the thing is for google, it will take about three months to get on the top rankings and you can be on the top 100 ranking for about only a month. so it is adviceable that u optimize ur website regularly so that when google uploads new websites, yours can also be picked up. As for advertising on other websites, i dont think thats a good idea cos the fact remains that as at december 2005, 55.8% of those that use search engines use google so there are better chances of your site being viewed one google than any other website. hope this helps.

    Track your SEO with ease

It is possible if the keyword/phrase you are wanting to rank for is rather obscure like “yellow penguins” or “obsequious pencil”. If it is a competitive phrase then it will take much longer and the more competitive it is the longer it will take. For a competitive phrase with over 10 million hits on Google it will be 12 months plus and that is if you know what you are doing.

Brett Tabke of WebmasterWorld has written what many considers as comprehensive list of to-do things to get good rankings in Google. I suggest you start by reading this list, and then fortify your knowledge by participating in their search engine forums. There is a lot of brilliant SEO minds there who watches every hiccup of search engines and topics important for a new website (e.g. concept of sandboxing, datacenter watch during Google updates, redirect problems, etc.). Brett’s article can be found at.

WebmasterWorld also has a section that exclusively discusses how to get good rankings in Yahoo

There are so many things to learn about search engines that it is hard to put it in this Yahoo Answers format.

    Hope the above helps

The thing is just how long is a piece of string. there are so many factors that can influence your ranking that it’s difficult to quantify. I can only concur with the other comments and say that you must take persistent action and don’t give up.
